Still using your hands to access the web? The Ubi is hoping to change all of that.
Ubi is a voice-activated computer that plugs into any wall outlet. From there, it taps into the web using a WiFi connection and the sound of your voice. Use Ubi to get easy answers from the web, as well as provide access to email, phone calls, and some of your web-based home control devices.
The Ubi includes the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, a 800MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0 support, temperature, humidity, and air pressure sensors, and much more.
Similar to the iPhone’s Siri, Ubi can answer questions such as “How many teaspoons are in an ounce?” (At least that’s the example in the video walk-through below.) According to the device’s Kickstarter page, Ubi can also be used as an intercom, a speaker system, a speakerphone, a gateway to climate control, and much more. It can also sync with your smartphone for simple home monitoring, based on triggered events.
Ubi is an open-platform device, so you can expect voice changes and other new features in the future.
Early backers were able to secure the Ubi for $149. That offer sold out quickly, with single devices selling for $189 after that. However, unless you pre-ordered the Ubi through Kickstarter, you’re going to have to wait. The company exceeded its fundraising efforts (by a lot!), so they are currently focusing on making that December 2012 delivery happen before they start taking new orders. [via Springwise]
