Niles Audio is recalling about 2,270 iRemoteTS and iC2 remote control systems due to a potential fire hazard.
According to a statement sent out by Niles and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Niles has received four reports of batteries falling out of the remotes while they were being used.
One of the batteries ignited and singed a carpet, while the other three smoked. Niles says “if the battery falls from the remote control during handling, it can rupture and smoke or ignite, posing a fire hazard.”
Niles is recalling models of the iRemoteTS and iC2 that were sold through authorized dealers and distributors between Jan. 2008 and Sept. 2010.
Niles is contacting consumers who purchased the remote control systems to schedule an in-home repair to receive a replacement battery and a more secure battery cover.
