As much as we would like to, most of us can’t spend the entire day hanging out and pampering our pets. So you come home, give a little scratch behind the ear, and usually, some sort of treat. Now, one company is looking to automate part of that process, so you won’t have to wait until the tail end of the day to deliver a little love.
PetSafe just announced plans to launch its SocialPet Camera & Treat Dispenser. This is pretty much what it sounds like: a web-enabled camera bundled with an automated treat dispenser.
SocialPet boasts a super-easy setup process (see the video below). Once everything is connected, users can check in on pets remotely, share pics and video via the SocialPet Facebook App, and even reward Fido and/or Fluffy with a little nosh.
The system works in conjunction with any web-enabled computer, as well as iOS and Android devices with the SocialPet Facebook App. Pet owners can watch live video and take photos that can be shared or stored on your device. Of course, there’s also the treats.
Another perk is that permissions can be given, so friends and family can peek in on the pets and maybe provide a little cookie or two. If you don’t want those people stuffing your dog or cat during the day, the app can be set so that your pet can only receive treats at certain times of the day — or from certain users.
“Visiting social network sites is the No. 1 activity on the web,” said Randy Boyd, CEO and founder of Radio Systems Corporation, makers of the PetSafe brand. “As the leader in innovative pet products, we saw the opportunity to make busy pet owners’ lives easier by developing the SocialPet system. We’re excited for SocialPet to hit the market and can’t wait to see how it improves the pet ownership experience.”
PetSafe will start shipping the SocialPet Camera & Treat Dispenser on February 15, 2014. The package has been priced at $199.
