With so many companies getting into smart home automation (hello, Apple!), companies are going to have to do better to compete. Vivint plans to give the people what they want, by having the Vivint Sky get to know them a little better.
Vivint Sky is the company’s latest home automation system. It allows users to wireless control of lights, thermostats, door locks, security cameras and everything else you’d expect from a home control system. However, this one aims to make the smart home even smarter, by adding in learning capabilities.
At the center of the system is the Vivint SkyControl panel, which includes proprietary cloud technology that can learn from your preferences and behaviors. From there, the system will make suggestions on how you can enhance the convenience and control throughout your home. For instance, if you’re always tweaking the thermostat, Vivint Sky can come up with ways to increase the home’s energy efficiency.
The Vivint SkyControl has a 7-inch color capacitive touchscreen, Z-Wave support, and the power to display live HD video from security cameras. Users can also view recorded video clips on the Vivint SkyControl panel using the new Wi-Fi-based DVR solution, as well as tap into the live video via the Vivint Sky app for iOS and Android devices.
The Vivint Sky app also has a new interface, with proactive notifications, shared entry access, and more.
“Vivint Sky transforms the home automation experience by providing an unprecedented level of control over the home,” said Todd Pedersen, co-founder and CEO of Vivint. “While we have more than 800,000 consumers already using our home automation technology, this is just the beginning. Our next step is to boldly redefine the smart home with intelligence that eliminates the burden of monitoring the home from the homeowner. With Vivint Sky, we have created a truly human smart home system that learns from you.”
Vivint Sky can connect to a variety of automation products, including door locks, window and door sensors, motion detectors, connected power outlets and more. Available now, the system does require a $99 activation fee. After that, you can expect to pay anywhere from $53.99 to $69.99 per month, depending on your package.
