The HomeKit-enabled Insteon smart home hub is available now through Amazon.com and Smarthome.com for $149.99 and will be available in retail stores in early July. Insteon joins Lutron as manufacturers of smart home hubs that work with Apple Homekit.
Insteon recently released a new Insteon app, designed to work in conjunction with Apple’s home automation platform.
Announced back in June 2014, HomeKit allows users to control devices individually or in pairs, all via Apple’s Siri voice assistant. That means you can say things like “Bedtime, Siri” to any Siri-enabled iOS devices, and have the system dim lights, lock doors, and turn down the thermostat.
It also means that when HomeKit-enabled products start flooding store shelves, you’ll be able to easily integrate them with Insteon devices and control everything using this new app.
If you need something to add to your HomeKit setup, Insteon is also introducing a HomeKit-enabled version of its popular Insteon Hub. That’s the piece you will need to blend HomeKit gadgets with Insteon’s switches, outlets, thermostats and light bulbs.
Besides being able to control lights, door locks, garage doors, thermostats and other HomeKit-enabled products, the new Insteon app makes it easy to manage multiple rooms, zones and houses, as well as schedule scenes and add new devices.
“We’re thrilled to launch our HomeKit-enabled Insteon App and Insteon Hub. This brings together more products from more manufacturers under a single platform than we’ve ever seen,” said Joe Dada, CEO of Insteon. “Support for HomeKit technology for home management will allow us to provide a simple and easy experience for our customers, with the ability to securely pair and control devices throughout the house including integration with Siri.”
The new Insteon app is free and compatible with all HomeKit-enabled products, regardless of the manufacturer. The Insteon Hub featuring HomeKit technology is available now, priced at $149.99.
Rachel, your last line indicates it’s still on pre-order. According to Insteon’s release, they’re now shipping.
