The holiday party season is coming up fast. Soon, it will be time for you to burn up something for the family. Not quite the Master Chef? You may want to ask Santa to stuff your stocking with a few smart kitchen gadgets.
Maverick Industries has a trio of high-tech digital thermometers, with two of them adding in an app component. Each one of: these smart kitchen gadgets: was designed to: help you cook up a perfect meal every time you’re in the kitchen. You may even get to socialize for a change!
The least expensive of the lot is the ET-11 Direct Connect Thermometer. It’s only $29.95 because it will tether your smartphone (not you) to whatever is cooking. The ET-11 has a 59-inch stainless steel wire and water-resistant probe, which can be inserted right into the dish. The other end is a plug, which goes directly into your iOS or Android device. You’ll also need the ET-11 Redi-Chek app, which has 16 preset temperatures—or you can add your own. Once programmed, the app will show how long it will take for your food to cook in a real-time chart. It even has space for recipes, notes, and photos, all of which you can share on Facebook and Twitter.
For a slight step up, the PT-100 Pro Temp Commercial Thermometer ($52) is a water-, dust- and shock-resistant commercial-grade device with NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) approval. It doesn’t have an app component, but the PT-100 can monitor food anywhere between -40 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and has an LCD screen to show the readings. It also has an Auto Power Save function and the ability to turn on or off when the probe is pivoted.
The last in the lineup is the smartest of these smart kitchen gadgets. At $79.99, the ET-735 Bluetooth Thermometer is also the most expensive of the lot. That’s because it has Bluetooth, which can connect to almost any portable device, without having to be physically connected. That way, you can use your smartphone, tablet or computer in another room—up to 160 feet away. And while you’re checking email or Facebook, the ET-735 will keep tabs on the food. It can actually monitor up to four water-resistant probes and will send out alerts once each item: is ready. Other features include 15 preset temperatures, the option for custom temperatures, and a choice of black or white finishes.
