There are a variety of DIY home automation products that are designed to put you on the path to a much smarter home. Some offer security features, while others are basically just some type of dongle that can sneak a little control into everyday appliances. Insteon offers a really scalable solution, with an endless amount of product options.
However, if you don’t want to piece together that perfect smart home slowly, the company does offer the Insteon Connected Kit. This DIY home automation solution is for homeowners looking to get into home automation, but don’t really want to take their sweet time with it.
At the heart of the kit (and your system) is the Insteon Hub. Working in conjunction with your home’s existing router, this is what connects everything in your newly connected home— light bulbs, wall switches, outlets, thermostats, and more. It’s also what connects those things to the Insteon app for iOS, Android and Windows devices. The Hub can deliver instant alerts about break-ins, water leaks, smoke alarms and much more. And if there’s no alert and you’re just curious, the Hub provides remote access to all of the devices in your home while you’re away from home.
As far as actual devices, the DIY home automation opportunities are endless. The Hub can connect multiple devices simultaneously in one home. The Connected Kit, however, comes with enough of those to get you started. Besides the Hub, this one box features two LampLinc dimmer modules to automate existing lamps, one Insteon thermostat, one Insteon Wireless IP Camera, one leak sensor, one motion sensor, and one open/close sensor for windows and/or doors.
If this kit has too many pieces, Insteon does offer several smaller kits. Of course, the Insteon Hub is also available as a separate purchase for $39.99. If you’re ready to jump into DIY home automation though, the above Insteon Connected Kit is available now, priced at $379.99. (Also available on Amazon)
