Back in late 2013, we talked up the latest in HomeSeer’s lineup of home control systems, the HomeTroller Zee. Now, the company is giving that popular product a little upgrade.
The hook on the HomeTroller Zee is that it’s a gateway for Z-Wave products, so you can control lighting, thermostats, AV equipment, garage doors, water valves, security and/or any other compatible devices around the home. The compact HomeTroller Zee uses the energy-efficient 700MHz Linux platform, so it can send alerts, announcements and reminders via email, text message or by voice (text to speech). It also offers support for iOS and Android devices. Oh—and it’s really affordable.
The company’s latest, the HomeTroller Zee S2 promises a better performance than its predecessor, along with built-in Z-Wave Plus support. That basically means it will work with even more products and technologies for all of those home control systems out there. That lineup includes all of the same Z-Wave-enabled devices mentioned above, including the lighting, the smart locks, the thermostats, the water valves, the sensors, and much more.
Of course, the HomeTroller Zee S2 also includes HomeSeer’s HS3 home automation software, which works with products and companies, such as IFTTT (“If This Then That”), Nest, Sonos, Philips and more home control systems and products. Once everything is connected, homeowners can access the HomeTroller Zee S2 at home or via the cloud through a smartphone or tablet, using HomeSeer’s iOS and Android apps.
Other features include a quad-core 960MHz processor, free myHomeSeer Remote Access service, voice control and voice programming (Android), options for up to five Linux drivers (Z-Wave, Insteon, X10, etc.), and an event engine.
HomeSeer just started shipping the HomeTroller Zee S2. It’s available on the company’s website now, priced exactly the same as its predecessor: $199.95. You can also snag a USB WiFi Adapter for an extra $17.95.
