Smart TVs aren’t the only items in the smart home that are more than willing to take all of your barking commands. Crestron is introducing an interesting wireless touchscreen with voice command recognition. That touchscreen is the TST-602.
Although there have been a lot of DIY home automation products lately, this certainly isn’t one of those options. It is wireless, however. In fact, the TST-602 Wireless Touchscreen is a wireless controller with voice command recognition, web browsing and Crestron Extended Range (ER) 2.4 GHz RF, which means that you don’t even need WiFi. (It does support that, though.) It features a 5.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, high-resolution graphics and H.264 streaming video.
If you don’t feel like constantly smudging that screen, the TST-602 has 15 customizable tactile push-buttons, including two-button up/down for volume control or channel-select, as well as a five-button D-pad for on-screen display navigation. Crestron says that the TST-602 can also light up, so it’s easy to operate, even in a dark room.
Those voice commands are key, of course, allowing users to say something as simple as “turn off the projector,” and have the system respond. Voice commands can also be used to choose lighting scenes, lock doors, arm a security system, enter a password, and perform many other functions.
Besides the H.264 support, the TST-602 can handle MJPEG formats for checking out live streaming video from an IP camera, a streaming server, or a DigitalMedia switcher. Other highlights include intercom features, on-screen multi-language keyboard and mouse capabilities, support for WEP, WPA, and WPA2 security protocols, and a fast-charging Lithium ion battery for up to 3.5 hours of continuous use.
Also worth noting is that the TST-602-WALL Wireless Touchscreen is identical to the standard TST-602 Wireless Touchscreen, except it includes a wall dock instead of the standard table dock. That wall dock is designed for a flat, vertical install, giving the touchscreen a place to hang out (literally) when it’s not keeping you company around the house.
