Control4 has been offering complete solutions for smart home systems for quite some time. Now, that lineup is getting a little upgrade. The company just announced that new OS 2.7 software is coming. However, this isn’t your typical software upgrade. It’s also going to pave the way for several new products.
First up, the company is planning an audio/video intercom. This will allow you check the front and back door, peek in on the baby, or call the family to dinner, all from any new Control4 touchscreen. That’s because each of the new models have an HD camera, speakers, a microphone, and the power to deliver full-rate HD video. Other features include do not disturb, audio-only and auto-answer, as well as the option to select an alternate camera as the video source for exterior video door stations. And it’s important to note that this functionality will even work with third-party SIP products, including door stations, home phones, and mobile apps for iOS and Android—when those things are connected on the same network.
Control4 is also planning a series of new gesture-capable touchscreens, in 7- and 10-inch screen sizes for in-wall installations. There will also be a 7-incher for tabletop use. Each one is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, with an HD camera, speakers, and a microphone for video intercom use. There’s even one-touch access for local and regional weather forecasts.
The OS 2.7 release will also allow Control4 to launch a new climate controller. The new Comfort Control experience can deliver easy climate control in the home or from miles away. It promises a more intuitive dial interface for quick access to thermostat functions and new configurable comfort control presets. Designed to work with leading HVAC systems, including forced air, radiant heating, split HVAC, dual fuel and geothermal systems, the new interface is compatible with products from Aprilaire, Carrier, Cool Automation, Heatmiser, and Nest.
However, Control4 is also planning to introduce a new wireless thermostat they can call their very own. Designed in conjunction with Aprilaire, the new battery-powered Control4/Aprilaire Wireless Thermostat can deliver scheduling and presets to modern HVAC systems, including geothermal, dual fuel, and humidity control systems.
Finally, Control4 will introduce a new handheld system remote in two flavors, with either English (SR-260) or international icons (SR-260i). Each one is designed to handle Control4 smart home systems, including entertainment, lighting and more. Other features include a larger display, a redesigned button layout, a brighter keypad, and options for custom buttons. Of course, both are faster, more responsive, and more intuitive as well. They even work with Control4’s existing recharging stations!
“Today, we announce several new solutions that have been designed to dramatically enhance the Control4 experience for homeowners and their families around the world,” said Martin Plaehn, Control4’s chairman and CEO. “By centering our efforts on delivering exceptional performance, exquisite design and engaging interaction, including integrating with the third-party products that customers may want in their homes, our new solutions will empower our dealers to deliver to their customers the customized lifestyle benefits of a Control4 Smart Home.”
