It’s chilly and even snowing in a lot of areas these days. However, that doesn’t excuse you from lawn care. If you want a “set it and forget it” approach, consider adding home automation to your lawn. It’s easy with Blossom.
Blossom is a newly announced automatic watering system that allows you to monitor and control your yard’s watering schedule from anywhere, using a smartphone, tablet or computer. However, it can also adapt to your local weather, so you won’t be wasting precious resources — including your money!
The Blossom uses cloud technology to gather local forecast and daily data from thousands or weather stations and satellites. Then, it uses that info to create an optimized watering schedule.
Besides adapting to your surroundings, another difference between Blossom and a lot of other systems is that it uses powerline technology. That means you can turn your existing outlets into part of the automated system. If you prefer to make Blossom part of your WiFi setup, that’s also an option. Either way, it works both indoors and outside.
Blossom works with your current system’s wires, valves and sprinklers. It’s an easy retrofit. It also has an app, which allows you to make adjustments from any iOS and Android devices.
The makers of Blossom are currently trying to create a bit of a buzz by launching pre-orders on Kickstarter — and it’s working. In a matter of days, the company has already surpassed its goal. That’s probably because it’s being offered at the pre-order price of $119 (sorry, the $89 offer is already gone!). That’s $60 off the projected retail cost. Once the campaign ends, the company’s initial shipments will begin in January 2015.
