A few years back, Archos was teasing us with the idea that the company would enter the connected home category. It took a little time, but the company has just started shipping the Archos Smart Home lineup.
To start, the Archos Smart Home portfolio features several products. At the center of the setup is the Smart Home Tablet, which controls all of the devices in the setup via Bluetooth Smart. It can even be tied into the Archos Smart Home app for iOS and Android devices.
The 7-inch Android tablet has the Jellybean OS, access to the Google Play Store, and on-board temperature and humidity sensors.
The Smart Home lineup also includes the Archos Smart Plug for controlling lights and appliances and the Weather Tag for detecting temperature and humidity. For security purposes, Archos has the Mini-Cam for monitoring your home remotely with pictures and short videos, the Movement Tag for keeping tabs on doors and windows, and the Motion Ball for detecting movement within 10 meters, both inside and out (it’s even waterproof!).
According to Archos, everything in the Smart Home lineup will be available as a stand-alone purchase for $29.99 and up. However, the company has also compiled the Smart Home Starter Pack, which includes the tablet, two Mini-Cams, two Movement Tags and two Weather Tags. That’s available now, priced at $249.99.
