We all know that you can order a variety of smart home gadgets through Amazon. However, the online retailer is making plans so that some of those future orders will be for Amazon-branded smart home gadgets.
According to Reuters, Amazon is planning to increase the staff of Lab126, the hardware unit responsible for Amazon’s Kindle and other consumer electronics devices.
Apparently, the Amazon is hoping to test out smart home devices, including a Wi-Fi-enabled gadget that will allow you to order products at the press of a button. Even though the report says that Amazon may also be interested in its own version of the Apple Watch, no other product details — including a timeline — are available at this time.
This move isn’t all that surprising, though. After all, both Google and Apple have been making a big push for the smart home lately. Also, look at some of Amazon’s recent accomplishments. Besides becoming one of the biggest retail threats in the business, the company has become a major player in tablets and streaming media. The company’s latest endeavor is smartphones, with the introduction of the Fire Phone. Also, let’s not forget that the company already has a variety of consumer electronic products, from the Fire TV set-top box to Amazon-branded TV antennas.
