Are you sure you’re getting the best big game experience? Before the Super Bowl kicks off, you may want to tweak your AV setup.
Last year, THX launched tune-up, an app that walks users through a series of adjustments for the TV, projector and/or speakers. Unfortunately, the app was only for iOS users. Now, THX just announced that an Android version is now available at the Google Play store.
The Android version is exactly like the iOS version. It walks users through a variety of video patterns and audio tests so you can check that all of your video settings are optimized based on the component’s capabilities and room lighting, as well as that speakers are connected and working properly.
Of course, nothing compares to having a professional calibrate your setup, but that’s not always possible. THX tune-up uses your device’s built-in camera, a THX-designed color filter, and step-by-step instructions to help tweak tidbits like the aspect ratio, brightness, color, contrast, tint, speaker phase, and more.
The THX tune-app is available now for iOS and Android devices. To connect an Android phone or tablet, you must have an HDMI cable and adapter. Apple users also need an HDMI cable and a 30-pin Digital AV adapter or Lightning Digital AV adapter. It’s also possible to connect to your setup with AirPlay, via the Apple TV. (All of those necessary items are sold separately.)
To celebrate the new launch, THX will offer both the Android and iOS apps free from now through February 3, 2014. So even if you missed out on the freebie when the iOS version launched, you now have a second chance. After Monday, THX tune-up will be available for $1.99.
