Few rooms possess the ideal characteristics of a true, by-the-book home theater. The room might be too long or wide, have too many windows and might be furnished in a way that only exacerbates some of the issues. This doesn’t mean you should give up on your dreams for a stellar home theater, though. Many of the imperfections you’ll en- counter can be easily remedied or at least abated. Some of the fixes you will be able to handle yourself; others will require the handiwork of a qualified home theater designer. And be sure to pick and choose your battles, as perfection will come with a price. You might be perfectly content to watch a movie with the windows uncovered, even though the sunlight washes out the picture slightly, for instance, so have a clear idea of your goals and keep them in line with your budget.
