Are Roku users seeing red when it comes to that purple home screen? The company says you can get rid of the old home screen and opt for one of the new Roku Themes.
Roku Themes are basically little screensavers for your Roku media streamer. So instead of being greeted by a boring color every time you turn on the box, you can opt for a little customization. After all, you were probably looking for another way to squeeze a little extra Game of Thrones into your life, yes?
“The stunning Theme features Khaleesi’s dragon and Tyrion on the home screen,” said Roku’s Doug Craig in a blog post. “As you scroll to the right, the dragon will remain on screen, keeping watch as you navigate through the UI.”
Besides the option to bring Westeros to your Roku home screen, there are Themes for Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and more. Right now, there are actually nine different Roku Themes. It doesn’t seem like a whole lot, but there are options for TV shows, movies and hobbies—and Roku is promising to add more soon.
“Here at Roku, we strive to not only give our customers the best streaming experience, but also the most fun and choice to stream on your terms,” Craig said. “We think you’ll have fun with the nine home screen options (and more on the way!), ranging from your favorite TV shows, movies and hobbies. There’s certain to be a Theme to reflect your personal interests and streaming style.”
The initial Roku Themes are available now, right in the Roku Channel Store. The Game of Thrones and House of Cards themes are free for a limited time, but the rest are going to cost you. So if you want something else besides that old purple-y home screen, expect to shell out anywhere between 99 cents and $2.99, depending on your choice.
