Not every room needs a giant, expensive sound system. Of course, that would be nice. However, Proficient Audio has something pretty nice, too. The company just announced the MaxTV MT2 Speaker, which is designed to deliver better sound to any TV setup.
MaxTV is a single speaker with four 2.5-inch midranges and two 1-inch soft dome tweeters. Everything is in a Mid-Tweeter-Mid configuration, with the left and right speaker systems in their own internal enclosures. Rounding out the packing is two 5.25-inch down-firing subwoofers, which also have their own tuned and vented internal enclosures.
The MaxTV also has Bluetooth support, so users can stream music from any compatible smartphone, tablet or computer, right to the speaker.
Other features include four 20-watt (RMS) digital amplifiers in a 2 channel bi-amplified configuration and a selectable DSP. Proficient says that the MT2 can support TVs up to 160 pounds. Of course, it can also be paired with a TV that’s mounted on a stand or wall.
“For many situations, a full-blown home theater sound system isn’t practical. A lot of soundbars just don’t begin to make it to the level we would consider acceptable, so we approached the challenge from a whole new direction,” said Proficient’s Loren Maldoon. “We asked, what if we designed a sound system that was a platform for the display? The answer was Proficient MaxTV. Our first TV Speaker, the MT2 is perfect for people who want great sound but don’t want to fill their room with speakers and electronics.”
Proficient is shipping the MaxTV now, with an MSRP of $599.
