Just yesterday, we told you about the new LG LAB540W SoundPlate. Now another company is hoping to squeeze a speaker into that slim space under your TV. Pioneer Electronics just announced its first soundbase product, the SP-SB03 Speaker Base TV Audio System.
Designed by engineer Andrew Jones, the flat speaker system is designed for users who prefer to have that flat-panel TV on a stand rather than a wall mount. It can hold most TVs up to 55 inches, and easily connects to the TV using just one cable.
Inside, the Speaker Base has two 3-inch midrange drivers and two 1-inch soft dome tweeters that sit at the front of the unit. An additional two 4-inch woofers are built into the bottom of the enclosure. Each of those drivers also has its own amplifier, which can produce up to 28 watts of power (168 watts total).
Other features include a 3D audio expansion mode, Dolby Digital decoding, and four disc-shaped rubberized feet on the bottom of the Speaker Base for a sturdy setup.
“Consumers deserve to have the best entertainment experience at home, but unfortunately sound produced by today’s TVs just doesn’t cut it, which is why the Speaker Base was created,” said Chris Walker, director of AV marketing and product planning for the Home Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “Andrew’s design delivers an audio experience that rivals, if not exceeds, traditional speaker bars without the need for a dedicated subwoofer.”
Pioneer plans to start selling the SP-SB03 Speaker Base in October, with an MSRP of $349.99.
