The Wireless Collection consists of five products. Each one can put music into any part of the house, via Wi-Fi. Once everything is set up, users can stream music from a smartphone, tablet or PC, all without sacrificing audio quality. Those streaming options include stored music, as well as services like Pandora, Spotify and web radio. Everything is available through Definitive’s Play-Fi app for iOS and Android devices.
Speaking of which: That Play-Fi support also makes this collection slightly different. Having support for the DTS format means that all of the new products can be connected to any other Play-Fi products — even ones made by other manufacturers.
Definitive Technology is launching the Wireless Collection with five products. The compact W7 Wireless Speaker can put music into almost any area for $399. The W9 Wireless Speaker has a larger cabinet size to accommodate additional transducers. That model also features a “Tri-Polar” dispersion pattern for filling the room with sound. Definitive has priced the W9 at $699.
For an even bigger option, the W Studio Soundbar is paired with an 8-inch wireless subwoofer for $1,299. Promising 5.1 theater sound, the package has HDMI switching for audio and video and Definitive’s own Spatial Array technology for a more immersive listening experience.
The remaining two products aren’t speakers. The W Amp is a $499 2-channel wireless streaming amplifier that works with your favorite speakers. Boasting 150 watts of power per channel, it includes a rack-mount kit, a line-level subwoofer output, and left/right channel line-level inputs and outputs. If you already have an amp, the W Adapt can add wireless streaming to any existing audio setup. It has an auxiliary input, digital outputs and an optical output. The W Adapt also comes with the rack-mount kit and a $399 price tag.
“With our wireless audio system, listeners do not need to compromise critical listening when they move to another area of their home,” said Matt Lyons, SVP of wireless music system product development. “Instead, through purposeful design and intelligent technology, the wireless music system creates a symphony of sound wherever you are — letting you control your music on any audio product when you want to enjoy it.”
Definitive Technology will start taking pre-orders for the Wireless Collection on September 10. The product line will then start shipping to select retailers on October 5.
