Smart garage door openers and electronic door locks have enabled homeowners to open doors conveniently from an app on their smartphone so that delivery people can leave packages somewhere safe. As soon as the package is deposited they can tap a button to lock up the house once again. It’s a solution that works … for some. If you’re still hesitant to let delivery people into your garage or house unattended, DoorBird recently announced a super-safe alternative.
The company’s new Video Parcel Box, which can be attached to an exterior wall, mounted to a fence, or just stand along, features a built-in camera and microphone that enables homeowners to see the delivery person, talk to them, and open the parcel box, all remotely from an app on their smartphone. Customized access codes can be created, which the delivery person punches into a keypad on the box, or you can save the tracking number of the parcel in the app. This allows the delivery person to hold the bar code in front of the camera to have the Video Parcel Box open automatically. In either case, the homeowner is notified via the app that the parcel has arrived safely.
As is the case with all DoorBird products, video footage is recorded anytime someone presses a button or motion is detected. The optional cloud storage service can be used to access the footage. DoorBird also plans to make it compatible with many home automation systems, including those from Control4, URC, RTI, and Crestron.
The Video Parcel Box will be available in a variety of sizes, colors, and materials to complement the exterior of any home. Pricing will start at $1,250.
