Why settle for a home security camera when you can get something so much smarter? Icontrol Networks turned a lot of heads with the Piper, a product that combined home security with home automation. Now they are improving on that product with the Piper nv.
The latest in the Piper lineup of wireless home security cameras combines video monitoring and a little home automation as well. However, this DIY home automation solution also adds in night vision (hence the “nv”), along with a new 3.4-megapixel camera sensor for better detail.
That night vision is key, though. It’s not just part of the product name, but also enables this camera to deliver a clear 180-degree view, whether it’s day or night. And there’s no need to tweak the camera to better the performance. The night vision will just kick in automatically once the room starts getting dark.
Of course, the Piper nv also has all of the features Piper users have come to depend on. For instance, there’s a 180-degree fisheye lens, a 1080p camera sensor, and electronic pan, tilt, and zoom. It also has three security modes (home, away and vacation), a motion detector, a 105dB siren, two-way audio, and the option to send and receive alerts via phone, text, email, and push notifications. There are even environmental sensors to detect temperature, humidity, light and sound.
Even more enticing is that Piper nv wireless home security cameras pack in support for Z-Wave, so you can control this security setup remotely, set schedules, or trigger alerts.
Other features include a battery backup, internal memory for video storage, WiFi support, and a free app for iOS and Android devices.
“Being aware of events in your home has never been easier with Piper,” said Russell Ure, creator of Piper and an executive vice president and GM at Icontrol Networks. “Piper nv provides homeowners with unsurpassed visibility into their homes and ensures places and loved ones are always protected and safe. It sets a new standard for the optimal video experience in the smart home marketplace.”
Piper nv wireless home security cameras are available now, starting at $269 each. The original Piper is also still selling, with an MSRP of $199.
