We are big fans of keyless smart locks. There is nothing better than ditching all of those keys and lightening up the load on your pocket, purse or other bag. However, what happens if you forget or lose your smartphone?
The Ola is looking to be smarter than the average smart lock. That’s because it doesn’t need keys or your smartphone to administer access. Instead, it can provide entry to the home with the power of one finger. It actually: features capacitive fingerprint technology, which can open the door in under a second.
Inside the Ola, there’s something called the FPC1020AM, a smart: sensor from Sweden. This allows these smart locks to read your specific fingerprint, whether you have a little boo-boo or a lot of dirt. That sensor is integrated right into the door handle. Just register your fingerprint (via the system’s radio frequency signal) and forget about your keys and phone. All the Ola needs is you—or at least, your finger.
The Ola uses four AA batteries to deliver up to two years of use. It even has a back-up AAA battery and the option for more power via a micro USB connection. Also, the Ola has Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Why? Because sometimes you actually want to share door access with friends and family. This allows you to administer a Bluetooth key or register their fingerprint using the Ola app. Oh and in case you have a lot of friends, the Ola can remember up to 1,700 fingerprints.
Each Ola package includes the smart lock, a lockset, and everything else you’d need to complete the easy installation.
Currently, the Ola is seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a campaign that will run through July 23, 2015. To secure one of the first Ola smart locks, you’ll need to pledge a minimum of $159 (since the other two early-bird options are already gone). Once the campaign is finished, the company plans to start shipping out the first locks to Ola backers sometime in March 2016.
