A few years back, Lockitron introduced its first smart lock, which was designed to deliver access via Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and NFC support. Well, the company has learned a few things over that time and is ready to introduce its successor, the Lockitron Bolt smart lock.
The Lockitron Bolt smart lock still provides easy access, but with a smaller, better looking form factor. Also, this model relies on Bluetooth Low Energy to connect to your smartphone. Of course, you can use the iOS and Android apps to unlock the door, but it also features Lockitron’s Sense feature for hands-free access. That basically means that as you’re walking up to the door, it will open—as long as you have that phone on you. Another perk allows users to share temporary or permanent access with family and friends, in an instant.
If you find yourself missing out on locking and unlocking the door from afar, you can add in the Lockitron Bridge. This device connects to your home network and adds full remote control and monitoring capabilities to the Lockitron Bolt smart lock, all without any monthly fees.
The Lockitron Bolt smart lock does support iOS and Android devices out of the box. However, the company has also announced support for applications and devices built by the Lockitron developer community, which includes those for the Pebble Smartwatch, Android Wear, Google Glass, Zapier and more.
A preview version of the Lockitron Bolt smart lock will be available soon. That will be packaged with a preview edition of the Bridge, for a total of $99. Once the Lockitron Bolt smart lock starts shipping in the spring, it will be available in modern finishes as well as something more traditional. Those options will start at $99. The final price for the Bridge has not been set yet, although the preview model will be available for $79.
