There really is no excuse not to have some type of security measure installed in your home. After all, there are so many DIY home security systems out these days. One company is taking the creepiness out of having those cameras peeping around the clock. The upcoming butterfleye is going to make DIY home security systems more social.
This smart, social and connected camera comes packing something called Active Eye Intelligence, which has a learning algorithm and video analytics. Basically, that means it knows when people should and shouldn’t be home, so it knows the best times to snap pictures and videos throughout the day. Then it takes that content and uploads it to the cloud, where users can access it via an iPhone—and even share it to Facebook, Instagram and Vine.
It’s a neat way to capture candid moments you may otherwise miss. It also means that you won’t have to weed through hours of footage featuring your couch. The butterfleye is also triggered to record by audio and provides a real-time peek at your home whenever you want it. Users can then opt to keep those recorded moments in local storage on the camera or in the cloud.
The butterfleye has Bluetooth and WiFi, so it can connect to other smart devices in the house. For instance, the butterfleye can alert the Nest Learning Thermostat that someone turned on the lights, triggering heating or cooling functions.
Other features include a 3-megapixels lens, 1920 x 1080 video, a built-in speaker and a microphone. It’s also completely wireless, so you can take it from room to room—and even on the go.
“The butterfleye camera with Active Eye Intelligence is a 21st-century take on outdated 24/7 surveillance systems,” said Ben Nader, butterfleye’s founder and CEO. “First, butterfleye gives you instant access to what’s going on in your home no matter where you are. It will not only send you pictures and videos that you can share via social media, but will allow you to take a live look inside your home whenever you want, giving you peace of mind that your loved ones and valuables are safe. Second, when you are home, butterfleye becomes a third-party photographer, automatically taking pictures and videos, allowing you to live in the moment and not have to document it from behind the lens of a camera. And third, butterfleye has the ability to connect to other smart devices, enabling new levels of home control and automation.”
After launching a successful crowdfunding campaign, butterfleye DIY home security systems are currently available for pre-order, priced at $199 each. You can also score a three-pack of cameras for $547. The company expects to start shipping those orders sometime this summer.
