Having a high-tech security system can provide a lot of peace of mind. However, you’re going to have to leave the house at some point. Not to worry; ADT and Life360 just announced a partnership that will allow users to take that security blanket on the go.
The two companies are planning to release co-branded mobile home security applications that will extend the reach of security well beyond the walls of the home. For instance, the two are currently working on a new app that will integrate certain features from ADT Chaperone. The idea is to provide direct access to ADT’s 24/7 monitoring centers, so users can connect to police, fire and emergency medical responders in an instant. No calls are necessary; users will have access to friends and emergency services at the touch of a button.
Another thing that the companies are working on is home automation integration. In other words, users can also expect to remotely access lights, door locks and more, directly from a mobile phone.
“We’ve expanded beyond helping protect and connect homes and businesses,” said Arthur Orduña, senior vice president and chief innovation officer for ADT. “Today, ADT provides security and monitoring solutions for families wherever they are. This partnership with Life360 fits within our innovation strategy to reinvent the idea of ‘security’ for our increasingly mobile lifestyles. It’s a perfect pairing as ADT and Life360 are both leaders in their categories that share a very similar vision and mission — to provide peace of mind to families.”
As part of the agreement, ADT will take a minority ownership stake in Life360 through a $25 million investment, leading a $50 million Series C financing for the company. It also means that the two companies will be working on additional personal security solutions for the more than 33 million families currently using Life360.
The upcoming co-developed app will be free, while upgraded security features from ADT will be available for a nominal monthly subscription fee. If all goes well, the app will be released sometime in late 2014.
