A lot of the recent innovations in smart lighting involve some type of app. However, the Alba from Stack Lighting doesn’t need no stinking app. Instead, it responds to its surroundings.
According to Stack Lighting, the Alba is a “responsive light bulb.” That basically means it has sensors inside that can adjust the light based on temperature, time of day, and even occupancy. The company says that the setup can even “learn” from your behavior and preferences and adjust accordingly.
That means you can use Alba as a wake-up call, an energy-saver, or just because you enjoy a little mood lighting.
The Alba setup includes a hub, which communicates with the bulbs via Bluetooth, Zigbee and iBeacon. Even though the bulb doesn’t need an app, TechCrunch says it still has one for the setup. Plus, you never know if you’ll want to tweak, right?
Stack Lighting is currently taking pre-orders for the Alba Starter Kit, with plans to ship in Q1 2015. For $150, you’ll get one hub and two light bulbs. Additional bulbs are $60 each. Stack says it will also release “the most common formats of light units” over the next year. Check out the website for product and pre-order info.
