We’ve seen smart bulbs and even colored smart bulbs. Now a company named MiPow is looking to take those colored smart bulbs outdoors.
The company’s new PlayBulb Garden outdoor lighting fixtures are like a Philips hue system for your garden. This outdoor smart bulb is specifically designed to highlight flowers, shrubs and any other greenery you enjoy outside. It can deliver a dramatic flair to that space even in the dark, by adding a bit of color into the equation. That way, it can be bright and colorful both day and night.
The system supports the PlayBulb X app for iOS and Android devices, so you can control color and lighting effects via a quick tap. Users can even group multiple PlayBulb Garden outdoor smart bulbs, so they can all share the same lighting and color effects.
These outdoor lighting fixtures are also solar powered, making it just as green as all of those things in your garden. It charges up during the day via sun energy and transfers all of that energy to an internal lithium-ion battery. Once fully charged, it can operate up to 20 hours.
Other features include IP56 water protection, a built-in light sensor for automatic use at night, and an easy installation. In fact, MiPow says you can just connect the accompanying monopod, push it into the grass, and you’re all set. The monopod isn’t necessary (so you can place it on the ground), but it does have two pieces, so you can make it the height to suit your needs.
Currently, MiPow is seeking funding for PlayBulb Garden outdoor lighting fixtures on Kickstarter. The company has already successfully funded several other smart bulbs and at last peek, had left its current campaign goal in the dust. To secure the PlayBulb Garden, you’ll need to pledge a minimum of $24. (Sorry, the $19 early-bird special is all gone!) Then when the PlayBulb Garden starts shipping in May, it will carry an MSRP of $29.99.
