With a product like the Philips hue, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the lineup has “friends.” Of course, there are several third-party products that work with the popular automated lighting solution. However, the company also launched a whole Friends of hue lineup, including an interesting product known as LightStrips Friends of hue.
The LightStrips Friends of hue is an automated lighting option that can bend and be affixed to almost any surface in the house. In other words, these LED-studded strips truly allow you to customize your lighting experience.
Designed to produce “indirect” light, LightStrips work with the Philips hue system to deliver 16 million colors to match your mood, decor, or whatever else you want to illuminate. This type of lighting solution allows you to create a safe pathway to your home theater seating, create a special candy counter, or even highlight a foyer or key piece of furniture. The possibilities are pretty endless and easy to incorporate almost anywhere in the home.
Each LightStrips Friends of hue measures about 2 meters and can be run along a shelf, under a TV, or wherever else you want it. Just wrap it, stretch it (not too much!), or place it. Then, you can use the hue app to have the LightStrips Friends of hue glow red at a specific time, dim lighting to set a dinner party, and more.
The hue app can even create a special color scheme based on a photo. Just open the photo within the app and drag the picker across that photo to select a color within the image to pick a perfect tone. Once you have that special color, you can save it and bring it up anytime you want to remember a special day, vacation or person.
To use LightStrips Friends of hue, you do need the Philips hue Starter Kit—specifically, the Philips hue Bridge. Once connected, it can be controlled with the free Philips hue app for iOS devices. The Starter Kit is currently selling for $199.99, with the LightStrips Friends of hue sold separately with an MSRP of $89.95.
