Earlier this year, we told you that Osram Sylvania was planning a few WeMo-friendly lighting options, under its Lightify lineup. Now, the company has released several new Osram Lightify connected LED bulbs, whether you’re looking for something that will weave into the WeMo ecosystem or an automated lighting solution that can stand on its own just fine.
Like many other smart lighting solutions out there, Osram Lightify does use a wireless Gateway to connect the products to the free Lightify app for iOS and Android devices. However, this one can be plugged into any standard outlet. From there, it will sync with your home’s existing WiFi network. This is a nice perk, since so many gateways need to be connected to your router. In other words, the Lightify Gateway won’t hog another port and can be placed anywhere you want it to be.
Once connected, the Gateway can connect to up to 50 different Lightify devices via ZigBee. Users can control power, dimming, color (similar to the Philips hue), scenes, groups, and more via the Lightify app. In the case of color, you can even match lighting to pictures stored on your portable device!
Having ZigBee support is what allows Lightify to work with WeMo. And in WeMo’s case, the company says you won’t need the Gateway if you pair Lightify devices to the WeMo Link. ZigBee connectivity also opens up possibilities for IFTTT (If This Then That) functionality. For instance, you may be able to set up the Lightify system to illuminate red when fire or carbon monoxide detectors go off. In fact, the company plans to add Nest support in the near future.
The initial Osram Lightify lineup includes the Gateway and three lighting options. Each of the A19 Tunable White 60W replacement LED bulbs promises over 800 lumens and an adjustable color temperature that can go from a warm 2700 Kelvin light up to a 6500 Kelvin cool white, at any dimness level. The LED Flexible Strip RGBW are flexible, color changing, indoor LED light strips, while Gardenspot Mini RGB LED lights are colored lights made for the outdoors. The company also plans to release ZigBee smart switches and an A19 60W replacement RGBW LED bulb, with options for 16 million colors and tunable white functionality.
Osram Sylvania is selling the Gateway packaged with one of the A19 Tunable White 60W replacement LED bulbs for $54.99. Additional bulbs can be added into the mix for $29.99 each. The LED Flex and Gardenspot Mini RGB are selling for $64.99 and $79.99, respectively. Extension packs for those options are available for $29.99 each.
