The Philips hue is certainly one of the most popular smart bulb options on the market today. People seem to love the colors, the functionality, and the fact that there are so many compatible apps and other things you can do with this automated lighting system.
The one thing people don’t love all that much? The Philips hue Starter Kit runs about $199. However, a new company is looking to be exactly like the Philips hue, without the Philips hue price. Say “hello” to mimoodz.
Mimoodz is a new smart LED light bulb that you can control with your smartphone. It also has all of the colors of the rainbow, just like the Philips hue—millions of them, to be exact. Besides the colors, mimoodz will allow you to turn lights on and off, as well as dim them.
Mimoodz is a 6-watt LED bulb with 470 lumens and a color temperature of 2,700 Kelvin. One mimoodz app can control up to nine bulbs at once. You can add more, but according to the company, you won’t be able to control all of them simultaneously.
Other features include the option to set mimoodz to music, the ability to control the bulb with your old light switch, and the promise of up to 20 years of use. It’s also really easy to use; just screw in the bulb, download the app, and start adjusting.
One way that the mimoodz differs from the Philips hue is that it uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology. That means you will only be able to control mimoodz in your house; there’s no option for remote control. Another way mimoodz is different from the Philips hue? It’s insanely inexpensive.
Currently, the company is taking pre-orders for mimoodz on Kickstarter, with an early-bird price of $19 each. However, the more bulbs you order, the lower the price drops, with a max of nine going for a minimum of $117 (that’s $13 each!). The campaign will run through June 17, 2015. After that, backers can expect to receive their mimoodz sometime in September 2015.
