In the Electronic House, you shouldn’t have to spend time (or energy) running: around to turn: all of the lights on and off every single night. Of course, you typically need an app or a hub of some sort to automate that task. However, Lutron Electronics is looking to extend that convenience to all sorts of: LED light bulbs you may have: installed around the house—and you don’t even need a smartphone.
The company just announced the Connected Bulb Remote Control, a $30 controller that can tap into up to 30 compatible connected LED light bulbs. No smartphones, tablets, or apps are needed.
Of course, we do love: apps. However, sometimes it isn’t convenient to find and unlock your smartphone just to turn the lights on or off. This is an easy: alternative that’s also really affordable. That’s because the Connected Bulb Remote Control uses ZigBee wireless technology to control all of those LED light bulbs. Instead of pairing the device with your home network and an app, you can just pair the remote with your bulbs by pressing a few buttons.
Besides powering the lights, the Connected Bulb Remote Control can put easy dimming capabilities in the palm of your hand.
According to Lutron, the Connected Bulb Remote Control can also be paired with certain smart home systems, in case you want the option of app control while out of the house. When not in use, the remote is: slim enough to be stored inside a standard decorator wallplate opening or you can attach it to the wall as a: stand-alone controller. There are even options for connecting: it to a car visor or tabletop pedestal.
The remote uses a single coin cell battery, which Lutron says will last for five years.
Lutron is selling the Connected Bulb Remote Control now, with an MSRP of $30.
