As if making the Caséta Wireless smart home system wireless wasn’t going to put Lutron Electronics into more homes, now they are making it a no-brainer by allowing the system to buddy up to several popular smart home devices.
Not content with just tackling wireless lighting, the Caséta Wireless smart home system can control lights, shades and thermostats from anywhere at any time. Homeowners can tap into all of those control options via a remote or the Lutron app for iOS or Android devices.
The current Caséta lineup includes Caséta Wireless in-wall and lamp dimmers, Serena remote-controlled shades, and Pico remote controls. It even provides remote control over third-party devices, such as Honeywell’s WiFi thermostats, Savant, RTI, Alarm.com, Elk, and others, thanks to the free Lutron app and the Lutron Smart Bridge.
That Smart Bridge connects directly into your existing router and uses Lutron’s ClearConnect Wireless technology to send wireless, radio frequency (RF) communication signals to compatible Lutron devices inside the home. Lutron also offers the Lutron Smart Bridge Pro for homeowners looking for a professional installation.
Besides lighting and shades, the Caséta setup can tap into the Nest Thermostat from the Lutron app to adjust the temperature, as well as set Home or Away modes. If you prefer Harmony as your main method of control, users can access Caséta Wireless dimmers and Serena shades (among many other things) through Logitech Harmony remote controls or the Harmony Mobile App.
Lutron isn’t going to stop adding partners anytime soon. For instance, there are plans to integrate with the Apple Watch, so you can control lights and shades right from your wrist. AT&T Digital Life subscribers will soon be able to access Lutron devices from the one Digital Life app. And finally, Lutron is working to build a channel on IFTTT (“If This Then That”), which will trigger light and shade control
“These new energy-saving solutions give consumers the opportunity to transform their homes quickly, easily and affordably into a smart and connected home, and provide peace of mind,” said Matt Swatsky, director of product management at Lutron Electronics. “With the Lutron Smart Bridge and App, we are giving people the ability to reliably control their home from anywhere in the world.”
The Lutron app is available now as a free download from iTunes and Google Play. The Lutron Smart Bridge sells for $150, with the Smart Bridge Pro going for $200 (not including installation fees). The Caséta Wireless package, featuring a Pico remote control with a dimmer (wall or lamp), has a list price $80.
