The Philips hue hasn’t just opened the floodgates for a variety of smart bulbs, but it’s opened the floodgates for a variety of multicolored smart bulbs. We’ve seen quite a few. Flux smart LED light bulbs are offering another option, allowing users to tweak color or control via a smartphone or tablet.
More specifically, Flux smart LED light bulbs use wireless Bluetooth technology to communicate with your iOS and Android devices of choice. Flux even has an app for each platform, so you can access the controls and the color palette, which boasts over 16 million colors and even different tones of white light.
Like any other smart bulb, these fit into your standard light socket. Just screw it in, download the app to your favorite mobile, and start adding a little color into your home setup.
If you’re wondering about the difference between these LED light bulbs and something like the Philips hue, the Bluetooth support would be the biggest standout. That means you can’t start tweaking the lights or color from the office or other remote place. It should also be noted that the Flux app has 20 pre-programmed color modes and the option to control up to 50 Flux smart LED light bulbs together as a group or individually.
Each of these smart LED light bulbs consumes about 7 watts of power, but boasts the equivalent of a 40-watt incandescent bulb. The bulb has also been rated for 20,000 hours of use. Other features include a timer option for a bright (and colorful!) daily wake-up call and a music sync feature, so you can have the light change to match your music. The bulb also has a built-in memory feature that can remember the last color or program mode used.
The free Flux app is available for download via iTunes and the Google Play Store. Flux smart LED light bulbs are available now, priced at $29.75 each.
