It’s hard to make the light switch category all that exciting. You can add buttons, dimmers, toggles, and even colors. D-Link decided to add a camera.
Yes, the new Komfy Light Switch (DKZ-201S) is a WiFi-enabled light switch that has a home security camera right on the front. We’ve been seeing a lot of smart home devices that can pull double-duty, and this is a pretty interesting combination.
Built to replace a standard 1- or 2-gang light switch, the Komfy Light Switch packs in a 1080p HD camera that can deliver a live peek from all of your favorite iOS devices. It even has sensors that can tap into info about the temperature, humidity, and air quality.
That free Komfy app allows users to remotely control lights, create schedules, and even receive push notifications about changes in a room’s temperature, humidity, and air quality. The Komfy also has IFTTT (“If This Then That”) support, so you can tie the switch into other smart devices around: the house.
Other features include a 130-degree wide angle lens, an Ambarella HD camera System-On-Chip (SoC), and both sound and motion alerts. The camera even: comes with cloud storage: for unlimited video clips on an 8-day first-in, first-out basis. Users can also opt to record content locally to a microSD card.
“Awareness is everything, and with Komfy you’ll always know the status of your home,” said Ken Loyd, director of consumer product marketing for D-Link Systems, Inc. “With a Full HD camera, free cloud recording, and multiple sensors with automatic alerts, you can address a problem before it becomes a disaster, allowing you to feel exactly how you should feel at home, which is safe and secure 24/7.”
D-Link is currently taking pre-orders for the Komfy Light Switch, with plans to start shipping in December. Available in white and black color options, it’s priced at $299.99.
