We’ve seen a lot of lighting products that offer remote access via a smartphone, tablet or other controller. But what happens when you just plain forget to access it? You might want to think about getting a BrightSwitch.
BrightSwitch is an upcoming light switch, which shouldn’t be confused with bRight Switch. This option doesn’t have any apps or controllers. Instead, it’s a single light switch that can shut off the lights automatically when you forget to.
All of the necessary electronics are inside the cover plate. That includes a tamper-proof time adjustment piece that allows you to set the time that the room is typically occupied. Once the time is up, the light switch will automatically power off. It can be set anywhere from 15 minutes to 12 hours, all without add-on devices.
Once BrightSwitch shuts off, it can be reset by toggling the switch to the “off” position and back to the “on” position. From there, the lights will turn back on and the time cycle will repeat.
BrightSwitch is easy to install and looks just like your typical light switch. It works with incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, CFL and LED bulbs, as well as ceiling and bathroom fans and 3-way switches.
Choose between white, ivory and light almond, as well as whether or not you want a single-gang toggle cover or a double-gang toggle cover. Each option can control one light switch. Currently, BrightSwitch is looking for funding through Indiegogo. A pledge of $17 will get you one BrightSwitch, with 2-packs and even 10-packs also available.
At last peek, BrightSwitch was almost half-way through its $5,000 fundraising goal. If you’re interested in smartening up one or more of the switches in your home, the campaign will run through August 25, 2014.
