Home lighting will literally take on a new shape, with the impending introduction of Moodberries, interior string lights that are customizable via Bluetooth and a mobile app. The lights can change color, brightness, and color patterns to match your personality and home interior. Developed by GreyNut, a small startup based in the Baltics, Moodberries is currently raising funding on Indeigogo.
‘We’re used to the fact that the light is functional,’ notes Kristians Licis and Kaspars Skerba, passionate interior design enthusiasts who’ve started the project. ‘Yet, it’s also deeply symbolical, helping us to discover new emotions. It’s people who give meanings to art and light, so we invited designers to catch the vibe and play. What they came up with was their own Moodberries’ lighting piece.’
Even when Moodberries are off, they add visual interest to a space with their unique circular design that resembles – you guessed it – berries. The strings of lights come with 10, 20, or 40 berries. And the length of the strand ranges from 4.5 meters (10 balls) to 9 meters (40) balls. Powered by a standard electrical outlet, the lights can be hung from the ceiling, tucked into a glass vase, laid out on a table, or any other way you’d like to display them.
GreyNut plans to offer a standard package with offers no customization of colors, speed, pattern, etc., but that comes with a button that lets you switch between 26 different predefined color patterns, such as “thunder,” “fire,” “frost,” and “summer.” A slider on the button lets you adjust the brightness.
A customizable Bluetooth version bumps the color options to 16 million. This gives you the ability to match the wall color, flooring, furniture, and other accessories and to change the color scheme on a whim. Other perks: You can adjust the speed by which the Moodberries change color and set up an alarm that activates the lights automatically.
‘I look at light as a trigger of imagination,’ freelance designer Matiss Stepins says. ‘There’s nothing you can’t do with it! That’s why I think of Moodberries as thunder, a cloud of thoughts with every light ball having its speed and brightness. You just look at Moodberries and release creativity – be happy, thoughtful, blue, basically anything!’
