A few months back, we introduced you to the Avi-on Movable Light Switch. The hook on this switch wasn’t just that it’s easy to install, but it’s also easy to move around. That’s because the switch just “sticks” to the wall.
Now parent company Avi-on Labs is looking to bring that ease to an entire lineup. The company just debuted “a complete ecosystem” of Bluetooth Mesh-based lighting and home automation products. However, the company isn’t doing this entire ecosystem alone. They are actually working with GE and Jasco Products to make some of these options happen.
That said, all of the new Avi-on products are designed to be as easy as the company’s first product, which means they should simply replace any of your existing switches or plugs. Once connected, the Avi-on app for iOS and Android devices will allow you to turn lights on and off, dim, create schedules and groups, and more.
Besides the Avi-on Movable Light Switch, the new lineup includes the Avi-on Remote Access Bridge. Since the system is based on Bluetooth, it isn’t accessible from anywhere in the world. This little WiFi bridge makes that an option. It even allows your Avi-on system to integrate with other smart home products.
Next up is a slew of GE-branded devices. The GE Bluetooth Smart Light Dimmer can replace existing dimmers with Bluetooth controls, with the Bluetooth Smart Light Switch replacing switches for lights, fans and small appliances. GE is also making three different Bluetooth plugs to blend into your Avi-on setup. The Bluetooth Smart Indoor Plug allows users to remotely control lights and small appliances, the Bluetooth Smart Indoor Dimmable Plug is for dimmable table, floor lamp or indoor holiday lights, and the Bluetooth Smart Outdoor Plug is for remotely controlling outdoor holiday or landscape lights.
“Before long, running wires to a light switch will be as obsolete as a typewriter,” said Dana Kunz, Avi-on’s general manager. “By partnering with major brands and manufacturers, Avi-on and Bluetooth Smart technology is transforming how we think about lighting controls.”
Avi-on expects to see each of the above products priced under the $40 mark. Look for the new lineup to start shipping between spring and summer of 2015.
