For a while now, we’ve been talking up the magic of OLED TVs. These TVs can produce eye-popping images, even when the cabinet is wafer thin. That’s great for video, but who knew that OLED technology could also apply to lighting? Yes, someone has put OLED into a desk lamp. That’s what makes Aerelight Design such a standout.
The company just launched the Aerelight OLED Task Lamp, a very stylish OLED lamp. Why would you want OLED inside a lamp exactly? It’s not just a conversation piece. It also provides the perfect amount of light for your nightstand or workspace, without ever having to change a bulb—or at least not for a really long time.
Aerelight uses a paper-thin energy-efficient OLED panel, which is supposed to last about 20 years. So forget about having to stock extra bulbs! However, it’s a pretty bright light, promising a glare-free, soft warm light that uses 80 percent less energy than your typical 60-watt light bulb.
Other features include an anodized aluminum body, a walnut hardwood base plate, and touch controls that can power or dim the light with one simple tap.
And in case your wondering what makes this worthy of the Electronic House (besides the OLED technology), take a closer peek at that base. It actually features a built-in wireless charging pad that charges Qi-compatible mobile devices.
“The phenomenal response from our pre-order backers has been very validating for us, and for the future of OLED lighting in general. The question regarding OLED lighting is no longer if, but rather when,” said Michael Helander, president and co-founder of OTI Lumionics. “Since launching pre-sales, we’ve not only seen an outpouring of support for Aerelight, but also a massive uptick in the general interest in OLED as the future of lighting. Our goal is to help make OLED technology accessible, and as we begin shipping the world’s first consumer-ready OLED lighting product, we are working towards that goal.”
Available in red, black and silver finishes, the Aerelight OLED Task Lamp is shipping now at a special price of $239.
