A lot of your smart gadgets are about to get a lot smarter. Now that there are so many smart gadgets on the market, some companies are going to want to distinguish themselves by making their products multitaskers. The latest extra-smart gadget comes from Acoustic Research.
The company just introduced the Hatteras, a new Bluetooth speaker that doubles as an outdoor home lighting fixture, which can be controlled via your favorite iOS and Android portables.
Inspired by America’s lighthouses, this Bluetooth speaker stands two feet tall and packs 40 watts of power into a weather and UV-resistant enclosure. That design allows the Hatteras to be used year-round, no matter what the weather conditions may be.
Inside, the Hatteras has two 4.5-inch midrange drivers, two 2.5-inch tweeters and a 4.5-inch passive rear subwoofer, as well as two 20-watt amplifier systems. That should be enough to crank out sound in a decent-sized yard and maybe even disturb a neighbor or two.
On the outside, the speaker can deliver 360 degrees of light, with options for multiple modes. A few those modes allow you to go from soft to full home lighting using a dimmer or deliver bass-driven dance lighting to pump up the party.
Acoustic Research plans to start selling the Hatteras sometime this spring. Although an exact date has yet to be announced, the Hatteras has been priced at $219.99.
