UPS (uninterruptible power supply) devices are a great way to protect your investment in electronics—and provide some power to computers, networking devices or home entertainment equipment in the case of a sudden power outage.
Now, some of Schneider Electric’s UPS devices (also branded APC and APC by Schneider) are even certified by Energy Star for their energy efficiency. Several Back-UPS and Smart-UPS (uninterruptible power supply) models have become the first to earn the Energy Star qualification under the federal program’s new UPS category.
To become Energy Star-certified, UPS products must achieve operational efficiency in the top 25 percent of the market, enabling consumers to realize lower electrical operating costs and a smaller carbon footprint. All UPS products are subject to the EPA’s Energy Star test procedure, under the supervision of a third-party certification. The products must achieve specific test results, including efficiencies at 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent loads, as well as no load losses and other characteristics.
The Back-UPS family is specifically designed for home use, and offers guaranteed power protection for wireless networks, computers, gaming consoles and other electronics in your home or business. Models supply battery backup during outages and unsafe voltage fluctuations, as well as provide protection from damaging surges and spikes. They’re available in ‘tower’ or ‘floor’ styles.
Smart-UPS is a line of smaller units for home and office use, available in floor standing and rack mount versions. These devices offer intelligent and efficient network power protection from entry level to scaleable runtime and are ideal for servers, point-of-sale, routers, switches, hubs and other network devices.
