This tiny device may look like a stone from your front driveway or the garden. However, it’s actually the Tempo, a new environment monitor that can provide all sorts of interesting information about your home, without being obtrusive or needing a complicated install.
The Tempo works in conjunction with your smartphone or tablet. Because it’s powered by two AA batteries, it’s easy to place this pebble-like piece anywhere in or around your home. Once it has the perfect spot, just turn it on and you can connect through the app almost immediately. The Tempo uses Bluetooth, so there’s no complicated setup process.
From there, you can use the Tempo to track all sorts of information about the “health” of your home. It has a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, and a barometric pressure sensor. It collects information on all of that stuff and will keep track of everything in the app, as often as you want it to, whether it’s every 5 minutes or every 24 hours.
The app even allows you to calibrate each sensor, store up to 30 days of hourly data, and choose graphic and statistics reports. And just in case you forget where you placed the Tempo (or some little fingers move it), the app also has a “find me” feature, which will make the device beep.
Other features include the ability to name the device, set alerts, and iBeacon functionality.
Available in black, white, gray, or a speckled “Pebble,” the Tempo is designed to work indoors and out (although technically, it’s not waterproof). It’s selling now, priced at $70.
