We all have energy hogs at home. Whether that’s a person or a thing, those bits and pieces are pretty easy to track in today’s Electronic House.
There are plenty of smart meter products out there that can keep tabs on your home’s energy consumption—even when you’re not at home. The latest is a device called Ecoisme. This small sensor monitors different devices in the home, providing real-time alerts and a few cost-cutting solutions.
The Ecoisme is also really easy to install. Just clamp your main power line and insert the plug into the power outlet. (If you’re unsure about those, it’s probably a really good idea to contact a licensed electrician.) That clamp measures current, while the plug determines voltage. All of that information can be accessed through the smart meter’s website or the Ecoisme iOS/Android app. The web-based dashboard will show energy consumption for each household device. It even checks energy efficiencies and send alerts if something like your oven or AC has been left on.
Besides being able to see which devices are sucking up the most energy, the Ecoisme can let you know when the kids are watching TV or playing PlayStation. The smart meter can even be integrated with other smart devices, such as the Nest or Belkin’s WeMo.
“We spent almost two years developing Ecoisme and have finally come up with the easiest and smartest energy monitoring solution. One sensor is all it takes to make your home truly intelligent,” says Ivan Pasichnyk, CEO of Ecoisme. “And although Ecoisme has powerful and complex technology behind it, the system is extremely easy to use. It’s like Shazam for energy usage.”
Currently, Ecoisme is available for pre-order on Indiegogo. At last peek, the project was fully funded. However, while the campaign is finishing up, you can still snag the Ecoisme at $60 off the $199 MSRP.
