We’ve been talking a lot about Dolby Atmos lately. As with all new technologies, the question quickly becomes, “What content is available?” (We’re looking at you, 4K.) However, when it comes to Dolby Atmos, we’re happy to say that there are Blu-rays available, with more on the way.
Dolby Atmos is a new sound format, which can add a new dimension to your listening experience. It actually delivers sound from above, so you can experience those birds, planes, helicopters, explosions and other content flying overhead.
The good news is that your old Blu-ray player will support Blu-rays with a Dolby Atmos track. That said, you will need other equipment, including an Atmos-enabled AV receiver. Of course, you will also need additional speakers mounted on the ceiling or at least Atmos-enabled speakers. The latter can process the format and project the audio, making it sound like it’s overhead, without actually having to mount the speakers to the ceiling.
Even if you don’t have the equipment in-house right now, each of these Blu-rays will work with your existing setup until you’re ready to upgrade.
For those waiting (and frothing) for Dolby Atmos-enabled content, let’s look at What Blu-rays Support Dolby Atmos.
