About a year ago, Phorus debuted the PS1 and the PR1. The hook on this speaker duo was that it included DTS’ Play-Fi technology. Now, the company has announced an upgrade.
The Phorus PS5 Speaker is the company’s latest, which also has DTS Play-Fi inside. That perk means that the speaker can stream lossless, high-quality audio from iOS, Android and Windows PCs to multiple rooms and from multiple users, all via Wi-Fi. It also means that this speaker is compatible with other Play-Fi devices — even ones from other manufacturers.
Phorus makes the PS5 easy to control, using the Phorus app for Android, Kindle Fire and iOS. From the app, users can stream locally stored music, music from DLNA servers, web radio and music services such as Pandora, SiriusXM, Songza, Deezer, KKBox, QQMusic, and more. Also worth noting is that the DTS Play-Fi HD Driver for Windows can add in music from any application on a PC, including Google Music, Spotify, and Xbox Music Live.
Other features include support for streaming via Bluetooth (including aptX and AAC codecs), for Windows phones and other devices, and AirPlay streams from OSX, iTunes, and iOS devices. It also packs in dual-core DSP and Class-D digital amplifiers.
“Phorus has always developed products with the music fan in mind. Our products give music fans the easiest way to stream their music at home, from any device to any room, without compromising great sound,” said Dannie Lau, general manager of Phorus and the Play-Fi division of DTS. “We are so pleased to introduce our next-generation Phorus PS5 Speaker and think that once again music fans will be blown away by the features, music services, sound quality, and value.”
The Phorus PS5 Speaker will start selling in December, with an MSRP of $229. The PR5 Receiver is available now, priced at $179.
