Typically, some speaker packages can be a little cheap—and not just when it comes to the price tag. However, the SKS-HT993THX doesn’t just pack seven full-sized home theater speakers and a subwoofer into the same box. It also has THX-I/S Plus certification, which means that it was tuned at the factory to perfectly deliver reference-quality sound, no matter what you’re cranking out of it.
To aid in that delivery, each of the seven THX speakers has A-OMF (Advanced Onkyo Micro Fiber) woofers and soft-dome tweeters. Also, because those speakers are sealed, you can place them almost anywhere—including on the wall, as far as the surrounds are concerned.
More specifically, the front speakers have two 5-inch woofers and one 1-inch tweeter inside each cabinet, as well as a frequency response of 50Hz to 45kHz. According to Onkyo’s product page, the surrounds get a slight bump on those woofers, up to a pair of 5.12-inchers. Rounding out the setup is a 125-watt subwoofer, which has a 12-inch front-firing cone.
If you’re looking to pair these speakers with another THX-certified product, Onkyo makes plenty of receivers, including the TX-NR727 7.2-channel AVR, the 7.2-channel TX-NR828, and the 9.2-channel TX-NR929. The company also has several Dolby Atmos-capable AVRs, such as the 7.2-channel TX-NR737, the 7.2-channel TX-NR838, the 9.2-channel TX-NR1030, and the 11.2-channel TX-NR3030.
Onkyo is shipping the SKS-HT993THX now, with an MSRP of $799.
