Within the audiophile community Dynaudio has established a reputation as one of the top loudspeaker manufacturers in the consumer audio business. The Danish company built this reputation through its use of its own driver and cabinet designs, and it reinforced its popularity through the professional and automotive audio markets.
Updating a product line that has been around since 1989, Dynaudio has announced its latest version Contour speakers. Dynaudio says the new products represent the third-generation of the products, and it says the new generation of speakers provides listeners with “vastly improved performance.”
“Speaking of its performance, it’s difficult to point out one thing that makes the difference. Is it the driver, is it the cabinet? It is all the elements combined that enable this major step forward,” says Michael Böwadt, vice president of product management, Dynaudio. “I believe we have achieved our goal [of] retailing and improving the fantastic high and mid end, but at the same time getting that dynamic bass response we were looking for. Together, it adds up to a substantially improved speaker with a lot more power than the previous Contour range.”
The new Contour line features four products: the two-way Contour 20 monitor; the medium-size floorstanding Contour 30 loudspeaker; the large, three-way Contour 60 loudspeaker, and the Contour 25C center-channel speaker.
The products were designed in the company’s state-of-the-art research and manufacturing facility in Skanderborg, Denmark, and highlighting some of the improvements made to the new Contour line include new drive units with improved MSP diaphragms, and aluminum voice coils that dissipate heat better than previous designs. The speakers also employ new Dynaudio Esotar2 soft-dome tweeters, as well as newly designed crossover networks, and Dynaudio points out the drivers and electronics are housed in heavily braced, curved multilayer enclosures that also utilize aluminum baffles.
Dynaudio adds the speakers are available in a choice walnut satin, white oak satin, piano black and piano white. Special order rosewood and bubinga high-gloss lacquer finishes are also available.
MSRPs for the speakers are:
• Contour 20: $5,000 per pair
• Contour 30: $7,500 per pair
• Contour 60: $10,000 per pair
• Contour 25C: $3,500 each
