There are plenty of devices streaming music via AirPlay. If you aren’t willing to part with your non-AirPlay component, Bicom wants to add the capability via its playGo AP1.
The playGo AP1 is an AirPlay-enabled receiver that can stream music from any iOS device to your favorite speaker system. Users don’t need AirPlay-enabled speakers or a receiver; the AP1 does all of the work — using your WiFi or Ethernet, of course. No apps are required.
Bicom says that the device support lossless audio, meaning you should be able to stream audiophile-quality music. Other features on the playGo AP1 include DLNA audio streaming and a USB port.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the playGo AP1 results. We love the ability to walk into our homes with our iPhone and effortlessly continue listening to the same song on our home stereo that had just been on our headphones,” said Ekin Binal, lead product designer of playGo. “The fact that we do not lose sound clarity is also something that we appreciate.”
Now, here comes the rub. To get the playGo AP1, you’re going to have to help fund the product through Kickstarter. The company hopes to raise $150,000 by July 5, 2012, to help cushion some of the production costs and keep the overall price down.
If you want to get in on the ground floor, the company is offering a $199 early bird price, with plans to sell it $275 at retail. In the meantime, get a little peek at the playGo AP1 in the video below.
