We love seeing shiny new gadgets. After a while though, some of them start to look the same. Bang & Olufsen is making the newly announced BeoSound Moment wireless music system stand out with a touch-sensitive wood interface.
B&O has always been really good at making their products stand out. That panel of touch-sensitive oak allows you to access all of your digital music, whether it’s stored or from the web, with just one touch on “the wooden wheel.”
If you prefer things nice and shiny, that’s certainly an option as well. Since the interface is detachable and double-sided, you can just flip it over and voila!—you’ve got aluminum. That side also has a touchscreen, so you can browse music, access playlists and share your collection.
That shiny side also has something called the MoodWheel, which features a color scheme that ranges “from melancholic blue over a passionate red zone to an energetic yellow area.” The idea is that the wheel can actually match music to your mood, with no spinning needed. Just touch the multi-colored MoodWheel and the system will start playing music based on your finger’s position. The closer you get to the center, the more familiar the music will be. If you hit somewhere in the middle, the system will play music from your list of favorites. If you venture outside of the circle, the system will start picking online selections that you may actually like.
Of course, it’s not just about how this thing looks. The BeoSound Moment also has an interesting feature known as PatternPlay. This perk can memorize your musical preferences and actually suggest music and radio stations. Bang & Olufsen says that the system can even remember those options and just start playing whatever you want to hear, without you having to ask.
Also worth noting is that the BeoSound Moment is compatible with a wide range of Bang & Olufsen wired and wireless speakers. And more features are expected in the future.
“As a modern, cloud based music system, BeoSound Moment will offer software updates with new features and improvements,” says Marie Kristine Schmidt, vice president of brand, design and marketing for Bang & Olufsen. “We have prepared a firm software update roadmap for BeoSound Moment including the deployment of a very compelling multi-room experience that encompasses both television and other audio products planned for summer 2015.”
Look for the BeoSound Moment to start selling on January 30, 2015, with an MSRP of $2,795. That price also includes 12 months of the Deezer Premium+ music service.
