We’ve seen some pretty sexy audio speakers over the years. However, when it comes to design, Bang & Olufsen is pretty hard to beat.
The company has been creating some pretty awesome (and sometimes pretty crazy) audio speakers on a semi-regular basis for quite a while now. So you can imagine what happens when a birthday rolls around. Well, you don’t really have to imagine, because the company has just debuted the BeoLab 90.
The BeoLab 90 is a new loudspeaker release that’s being timed for the company’s 90th birthday celebration. It also proves that the engineers at Bang & Olufsen really know how to party.
Each BeoLab 90 loudspeaker features 18 speaker drivers. That translates into seven ICEpower AM300-X tweeters, seven ICEpower AM300-X midranges, and four Heliox AM1000-1 woofers. This beast also packs in 14 channels of the latest generation ICEpower amplifiers and four Class D amps, all of which promises to crank up to 8,200 watts per speaker.
Bang & Olufsen is rounding out the package with all sorts of interesting tech perks. One is the company’s very own Active Room Compensation, which can tweak the speaker’s performance based on the size and configuration of the room, as well as where the speaker is located and even stuff like furniture.
Another interesting addition is Beam Width Control. This feature allows the user to adjust the width of the sound beam, so it can hit one specific sweet spot or fill up the room for a party. There’s also Beam Direction Control, so you can steer the sound radiation in five different directions. Both of those are easy to access via a single button on the Bang & Olufsen app.
“BeoLab 90 is the future of sound. This intelligent loudspeaker measures the acoustical effects of its surroundings and directs superb sound to your favorite listening position,” says Tue Manton, Bang & Olufsen’s CEO. “You do not have to be close to the speaker or even in front of it to get an excellent sound experience.”
Bang & Olufsen will start selling BeoLab 90 audio speakers on the company’s actual birthday—so mark your calendar for November 17, 2015. The speakers will be sold individually, with an MSRP of $38,995 each.
