If you prefer hidden speakers rather than speakers out in the open, Aurora Tile Ceiling Speakers may be for you.
Sound should be heard, not seen. Of course, there are plenty of exceptions. That said, there are certainly a lot of times when you really can’t have speakers exposed. For those times, you probably want to audition a selection of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. However, if you’ve got tile, Aurora has a great solution for hiding speakers, known as the SKR-22T.
The SKR-22T is a drop-ceiling speaker that’s designed to fit wherever you have existing ceiling tile. That means no cutting of tiles or back boxes is necessary! Instead, the 2-by-2-foot speaker should pop right into the existing tile layout and blend right into the room. (For 4-by-2-foot ceiling grids, Aurora says that you can cut the tiles in half and add a standard ceiling divider.)
Although it’s very compact, the SKR-22T packs in a 25-watt speaker (@ 4ohms) that boasts 360 degrees of sound in a mono mode. Because it can create that sort of soundfield, you shouldn’t have any hot spots—or a need for a ton of speakers. Even a single speaker can handle some of those smaller spaces!
Other features include a 50Hz to 15kHz (+/-10dB) frequency response, two mounting eyelets, and more. Weighing in at 5.5 pounds, Aurora also sells a 70v/100v version, known as the SKR-22T-XFR. Of course, Aurora says that both can be perfectly paired with the company’s DXP-102 or DXE-CAT-RX3, promising clear and noise-free sound with 96-percent efficient Class D amplification.
Aurora is selling the SKR-22T now, priced at $215 each.
